Minster People - York Minster, The North Transept Mon 22nd June - Thurs 30th July 2009

Diana has been visiting the Minster at York since February 2007 to make sketchbook drawings of some of the conservation work taking place during ‘York Minster Revealed’ a five year project dedicated to conserving the Cathedral. Since work started on the restoration of the Great East Window, she has recorded the work of everyone from scaffolders to stonemasons.

Diana’s studio work has involved developing linocuts, woodcuts and lithographs from sketchbook studies made in the masons yard and in the acclaimed glazier’s workshops where Britain’s largest medieval stained glass window is being conserved.

Diana says “My interest in the cathedral revolves around its identity as a place that, throughout its history, has provided all kinds of people with a working environment. For many years I have made linocuts in black and white; but for this exhibition I’ll be experimenting with colour using woodblock printing and lithography. I aim to produce a series of images investigating the involvement of craftsmen and craftswomen in the maintenance and restoration of the buildings that make up the Minster”.
